As drum overheads:

I've used my two Radio Shack 33-3017 small diaphragm condenser mics in a spaced stereo configuration (as well as in an X-Y stereo configuration) with excellent results.  I prefer the spaced stereo mic setup because that way I can hear clearly the tom rolls going from left to right.  It takes a bit longer to setup however because you have to experiment a lot with mic positioning in order to avoid phase cancellation. You check for phase cancellation by panning all your mics to center (mono) and listening as to whether any frequencies are getting cancelled out or if anything sounds wierd in general.
